How to Host Javascript for Blogger

In last post we had checked on the various aspects on why should we host the various JavaScript's to be used with Blogger Templates on our own hosts/servers. This is extremely useful for the hacks such as WordPress Styled Comments for Blogger, which are extremely popular. So now lets see how to do this for most of the Blogger hacks, in which we take the example of our own WordPress Styled comments for Blogger.

Here is the step by step guide on how to do this with Blogger.

STEP 1: Firstly Download the file onto your Computer, By right clicking on the JavaScript download link below the post, and select ‘save link as’ or ‘save target as’ depending upon the browser you are using.(see screenshot)

STEP 2: Now upload this file onto the hosts mentioned in our Previous Post, and copy the direct link of the file.

STEP 3: Now lets Customize our Widget. After customizing our widget, click on the Add to my blog link. The page opens onto ‘add Page Element’ page. Wait a second, don’t rush onto adding it.

STEP 4: Click on to ‘Edit Content’ link visible on the page. Clicking that would expand the widget code.

On the Expanded widget code, select the URL of the JavaScript file. This is in the initial lines, and comes after <script style="text/javascript" src="

This is clearly visible in the screenshot below.

javascript select blogger

STEP 5: Now replace the Highlighted URL with the Direct link of the JavaScript on your own server – done in STEP 2

STEP 6: Click on Add Widget Button, and you are done. As simple as That.

THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY ADDED THE WIDGETS:

  • Perform STEP 1 and STEP 2.
  • Go to your blogs layout , Click on the edit button on your Widget, to see the HTML Code. Replace the JavaScript URL as shown in Step 4.
  • Save the Widget, and you are done.

Any Help! Feel free to ask.

  2. hi!
I actually don't think this is a good idea because you can't upload on to a free server because it will have a certain bandwidth or something and which when is crossed it will stop showing the widgets.

  3. Actually this is a really good option. As most blog widget makers host the widget JavaScripts on their servers (mostly googlepages), which means if the widget becomes popular, the googlepages vabdwidth would run out. So it is better for the Widget User to host the Javascript on his Own host (own googlepages account)so that untill he has magnanimous traffic, even the googlepages bandwidth won't run out.

  4. JavaScriptHost.com - No bandwidth restrictions.

  5. You should always host javascript yourself.

All you need to do is create a Google account, then create a new Google website ( http://sites.google.com ) then host your java on the New Google website (FREE), copy the URL to your Blogger widget.

    EASY, SIMPLE, FREE! :)
