Winzip 12 Released

winzip_10_logoThe world’s most popular and famous zipping utility just launched its 12th avatar. With zip files being as popular as ever ( taking out the  part of followers of other formats like .rar and .7z) WinZip has come out to offer something new, which had been absent till now. It has improved a bit from the last version, but as always it is still a Paid utility, but you can always try it for free. The Pro version has some extra features built in and so maybe that’s worth a bit more.

The Major Updates to the WinZip Include:

  • Lossless Image compression for JPEG files, meaning that smaller zip files can be created.
  • Support for many other formats like 7z , CD/DVD .ISO and .IMG image files
  • Customizable Password strength, meaning an updated password policy for files.
  • Improved user experience.

The new features can be all seen at the What’s new in WinZip 12 page.

The pro version has some extra features that are not present at the regular version of WinZip. You can compare both the versions of WinZip too. The Regular version is available at $29.95 and the Pro version is available at $49.95 or you can try the 45 days evaluation but the WinZip computing must also release its free version even if it has less features, or just opens WinZip files . Actually its the era of Freeware and Open Source softwares.

wow I'm surprised that anybody is still using winzip. isn't zip technology built into almost all of the OS brands now? besides, web is fast now and storage is very high, and you don't really need to zip everything anymore

Yea, Winzip is kind of obsolete, winrar and other tools are much more popular now.
