@Jean: I don't blame them for copying facebook though. It only makes sense to steal some ideas from the leader. They just have to make more of an effort to differentiate themselves with their own ideas and look.

As long as their strategy is to just copy facebook, I don't think orkut has much chance of really gaining traction. Facebook is simply too established already and people don't want to waste time switching everything over to a new network.

So far, I'm not that happy with the new Orkut. It still feels like it was made by a bunch of kids. Fonts have no uniformity, design is all over the place. I wish they'd just simplify it like Facebook. At the end of the day, people want easy navigation and neat presentation. That's why MySpace failed too. All the glitter and flash was fun at first but then it just got in the way.

It will be interesting to see if Orkut makes any progress in the North American market. It seems like they are concentrating on weaker markets to begin. Perhaps once they improve their site more, they will make that push to compete with facebook.
